This unique combination of benefits is ensured by the Network’s special user authentication protocol, which is implemented by Roam miners. These miners are special routers which function as blockchain nodes, establishing WiFi connections decentrally by verifying on-chain web credentials (known as Decentralized Identifiers or DIDs). When a device with a DID comes within range of a miner, that miner alongside the other nodes will automatically verify the DID and a WiFi connection will be established. Users can get their DID for free on the Roam app, which is available for IoS and Android.

This connection process enables mining opportunities for both miner hosts and network users.
